Know which type of  notary certificate is needed. (acknowledgement or Jurat). 
A notary cannot give advice on which one to use.
Acknowledgement- Acknowledging the document and your signature
Jurat - Administer an oath (affirming what's in the document is true)
Signers must be present for all notarizations, no exceptions!
A valid Photo ID is required for all parties needing their signature notarized. (Communicate special circumstances before booking/appointment time)
Name on the document must match the name on the ID. 
The document(s) that is needing to be notarized, must be signed in the presence of the notary.
 All document(s) that is needing to be notarized, must be prepared and complete. (NO blank spaces)
By Law, I CANNOT back date or provide a future date on documents. The date will be the present day needing my services. 
All person(s) signing must be mentally competent.  
If 2 witnesses are required, a notary can act as 1 witness. It is your responsibility to provide the second witness. (For special situation I can accommodate for an additional fee)

A notary Public is not an attorney and cannot advise, amend, or dictate anything on a legal document.
